Welcome to Vintage Motors of Lyons

Front of the shop in Lyons

We sell, consign, purchase, and locate cars of interest for folks that appreciate them. We  always carry an eclectic selection of classics. Whether you are wanting that perfect  Sunday driver, a project car, or a higher end investment, we probably have a car that you will enjoy!

I have been passionate about cars since I was a kid in the '50's and '60's and bought my first car while in high school, which was a then 10 year old 1958 MGA. Since then I have enjoyed and nurtured many classics, both foreign and domestic. I decided to follow and share my passion for cars by creating a welcoming marketplace to not only sell cars, but open a place for everyone to come in and check out and talk cars, look at car books, magazines, posters, artwork, etc..

Our shop was originally built as a Texaco gas station in the 1940's and is conveniently located at the junction of the two highways leading to the Rocky Mountains just north west of Boulder. You won't miss us at the west end of Main Street.  Lyons is a fun, small town offering nationally known live music festivals and brewpub; shops and great fly fishing, kayaking, tubing, hiking, and mountain biking.  The South St. Vrain Canyon is among many great driving roads in the area.

The best part of this business has been all of the great people we meet. Thanks for visiting our site and I hope to meet you whenever you are in the area.

1965 VW Sundial Camper Bus – Sold

1965 VW Sundial Camper Bus. Ready for road trip adventures and to pull into your favorite campsite! This Bus is in very good condition throughout and runs and drives very well. 1600 CC VW Dual Port engine. Transmission, clutch, brakes, steering, suspension, electrical all very good. Dry, not rusty, Western US Bus (MT & WY). Straight body, good gaps all around; all doors lock with key. New exhaust.

JUST SOLD – THANK YOU

Walk through interior is really a bonus, curtains all around. Lots of closets and concealed storage so you may store your stuff neatly and out of the way; 9 gal fresh water tank with pump faucet; large frig style ice box; fold out dining and prep tables. Has electrical outlet inside with plug in under van so you can hookup to power at campsites. Really all you need; better to cook outside the van (we use a Coleman propane camp stove on a picnic table so not to have any cooking smells inside). Vintage ’60’s camping in style!

The split windshield, glass covered headlights  and front sliding windows provide distinctive style for these Type II buses.

Five opening louvered windows with full screens.

Large rear window, back up lights. New exhaust system.

Interior is very clean and in great shape. Matching tan suede material on front seats and door panels. Seats re-done with new foam and are very comfortable. The driving position makes these buses fun to drive (takes you back!). They are much more compact than any new camper types yet with plenty of room inside; short turning radius make them easy to get in and out of tight spaces.

Original type Sapphire Transistor radio intact; modern stereo mounted beneath dash,

Love the old school factory overhead fresh air vent with front/rear diverter. That is one of the stereo speakers laying on the jump seat; nice to see that the bus wasn’t cut anywhere for these; can be placed behind seats.

Rear seat folds down to bed very easily (easier than Westfalia set up!)

Opening louvered windows with screens for great ventilation.

Sundial was an American (So Cal) camper conversion company founded by John Nixon in 1963. Sundial started with German built panel vans and cut in the windows. Most all panel vans came in either L472 Beige Grey “Beigegrau” or L87 Pearl White “Perlweib” (which is the color of this van) which is why most all Sundials are either one of these two colors.

1600 cc dual port VW air cooled engine; runs very well; no drips or smoke. 12 v electrical.

Photo of the M Plate which is located behind the front right seat. The plate shows that this Type 2 Panel Van with cargo doors on the right side and Left Hand Drive was built October 22, 1964; Model year 1965. The chassis or VIN # is 2150469045 (matching its clear Colorado title); Paint Code is L87 Pearl White; Original Interior color was 83- Mesh Gray; Exported from Germany to Los Angeles with US specific export package: sealed beam headlights, twin reverse lights, hazard warning lights, seat belt mounts for both front seats, laminated windscreen, bumpers with guards and dual circuit brake system. Split front seats (walk through).
