Welcome to Vintage Motors of Lyons

Front of the shop in Lyons

We sell, consign, purchase, and locate cars of interest for folks that appreciate them. We  always carry an eclectic selection of classics. Whether you are wanting that perfect  Sunday driver, a project car, or a higher end investment, we probably have a car that you will enjoy!

I have been passionate about cars since I was a kid in the '50's and '60's and bought my first car while in high school, which was a then 10 year old 1958 MGA. Since then I have enjoyed and nurtured many classics, both foreign and domestic. I decided to follow and share my passion for cars by creating a welcoming marketplace to not only sell cars, but open a place for everyone to come in and check out and talk cars, look at car books, magazines, posters, artwork, etc..

Our shop was originally built as a Texaco gas station in the 1940's and is conveniently located at the junction of the two highways leading to the Rocky Mountains just north west of Boulder. You won't miss us at the west end of Main Street.  Lyons is a fun, small town offering nationally known live music festivals and brewpub; shops and great fly fishing, kayaking, tubing, hiking, and mountain biking.  The South St. Vrain Canyon is among many great driving roads in the area.

The best part of this business has been all of the great people we meet. Thanks for visiting our site and I hope to meet you whenever you are in the area.

1968 Porsche 912 – Sold

We are pleased to offer this 1968 Porsche 912 Five Speed Coupe For Sale. This is Porsche # 12802010 and is one of just 6,025 912 Coupes produced for 1968, being the last year for the desirable short wheel based cars. Its restoration was finished just three years ago; it is well sorted and ready to enjoy without issues. It is finished in its original color, Sand Beige (#6807-G) complimented by its Black Leatherette interior.

JUST SOLD, THANK YOU

The restoration of the car included stripping the car to bare metal and repainting it in its original, distinct Sand Beige finish; only 9.5 % of 1968 Porsches received this finish (manuf. paint mix code is with car). The paint presents well with no significant blems. All new rubber moldings, window channels, etc. were installed after the repaint. All parts receipts (most all from Stoddard and Pelican, so correct and of good quality) and a written log book of the restoration are included with the car.

Pure and iconic lines of the short wheelbase 912. Agile and lightweight, a joy to drive.

Body work included cutting out original, rusted rockers panels and installation of new inner and outer rocker panels, jack receiver tubes, etc..

Chrome trim rings and headlight buckets are new.

The interior is also in very good condition. New upper and lower dash pads, carpets and headliner. Seats reupholstered with correct black leatherette; door panels are very good with no cracks or splits.

Note new original type rubber floor mats (is how they came new).

All gauges are functioning, even the clock!

New dash pads; dash face is clean and original.

Original owners manual.

Car is equipped with optional five speed transmission.

New headliner; interior lights functioning.

Rear jump seats intact and in good condition.

While not the original engine to the car, it does have the correct and original type engine (is Engine # 750930 from a 1967 912); fully rebuilt (using Kolbenschmidt KS Rod Bearings and Big Bore Pistons and Cylinders; Main bearings and 55mm crank and other engine parts from Stoddard). It runs very well and pulls strong through all gears without any undue leaks, smoke, noises, etc.. The original Solex carbs have been replaced with Webers along with Petronix ignition and an electric fuel pump for increased performance and reliability.  New oil cooler installed. New Sachs clutch installed with engine out rebuild.

VIN Plate and stamped numbers in trunk match; # 12802010.

New carpets in trunk.

New premium Yellow Top Optima Battery in proper location alongside new fuel tank and spare chrome ventilated wheel. Car has factory Bilstein jack and also a jack plate insert for use with a floor jack.

Date stamped (11/67) original ventilated chrome wheels (showing some blems in chrome in spots) shod with Pirelli P6000 185/70 R 15 tires.

New front suspension, new fuel tank, new brakes, brake lines all around as part of restoration.

Undercoating applied to clean and rust free undercarriage.

New exhaust, heater tin, and engine sheet metal installed.

Left side valve cover, new Bilstein shock.

Right side valve cover, new Bilstein shock. Very clean undercarriage.

This 912 benefits from a thorough, driver level, restoration that will provide not only a great value to the next owner, but a fun, classic Porsche driving experience.

I believe that Porsche enthusiast Jerry Seinfeld summed up the 912 nicely in just five words: “Lighter, more agile, cooler image”.
