Here is a copy of a note we received from the buyer of this car on 11/18/10: “The most amazing thing about I how I acquired my 1959 Bentley S1 Saloon was that it was completely by happenstance. My husband and I were rounding the corner in Lyons, CO to head up to Rocky Mtn Nat’l Park when I spied the front grille of what was either a vintage Rolls or Bentley peeking from behind a glass garage door. I grabbed my husband’s arm and screamed “stop, stop!” He didn’t. But I made him go with me to the shop the very next day. That I now have two friends in addition to the wonderful motor vehicle, is frosting on the cake. I have never met the previous owner, “Punch”, but have communicated with him so often about my very special auto that I count him as a friend. I have, of course, met George, the proprietor of Vintage Motors Lyons. He is the most gracious, considerate, kindly and knowledgeable car salesman I’ve ever dealt with. This was our shop truck for many years. We restored it, keeping it as original as possible. Original 6 cylinder/3 on the tree, much original paint! It was sold new in Lakewood, CO and I am glad to see that the truck is staying here locally.

“I recently purchased George’s 1970 C10 shop truck. I had been looking for an early 70s C10 with a straight six and three-on-the -tree off and on for a number of years before happening upon Vintage Motors in Lyons. I first contacted George in 2021; we talked about it and he said he was having some rust repaired on the body. I checked in periodically over several months and the conversations were always so comfortable and free flowing and often times after talking about the C10 we started talking about cars in general. We spoke numerous times over check-ins and George was always patient, professional and courteous. Fast forward to February 2022 and the truck was back in his shop and I had the opportunity to see it in person and take it for a test drive. It was everything George represented, not embellished at all, essentially an honest representation of a classic 50 year old truck. at the end of it all I fell like a purchased the truck from a friend and not a business. We felt we really got to know the car’s history as he collated all the repair and service receipts in chronological order and provided us a written summary which we could review. He has incredible knowledge on what to look for and keep watch on and has a casual, comfortable manner that made the whole car buying process very enjoyable. George also took the time to prepare an owners copy and a DMV file and walked us through the paperwork. What a great service (!), it demystified the whole DMV process for someone that doesn’t deal with them.George had great references for us as well; he provided us names of the best mechanics in the area and car shippers too. Lastly, George follows through. Everything he promised was included with the car and he had it totally ready to go for us; he even called us to see how our drive home went. The gentleman on the left inherited this local Mercedes from his father and had been driving it for many years. He brought the car into us this past fall for us to take a look and recently decided to sell it. We were able to facilitate a sale to the gentleman on the right who had been mourning the loss of his 190B. It was a real pleasure to put these two gents together; my thanks to them. PS The car has a 4 speed on the column! The only other car I’d experienced with this same shift configuration was my late Uncle Nick’s early ’60’s Saab wagon. Both great cars!

I had to leave it in the Autozone parking lot, so I fired up the Morris, backed it off the trailer and drove it (without plates) to a motel. I made it without getting killed or caught, so that is good! We both had MGAs during this time and developed a bond for classic cars. I had the opportunity to visit George at his shop in Lyons, CO last May with my wife. Upon my arrival I saw this beautiful 53 MG TD sitting in his showroom. Although I had my MGA in high school, it was actually a TD that caught my eye beforehand but I couldn’t afford the price. Now retired and able to afford one I was hooked after a test drive! A price was agreed upon and the entire process went very smoothly.
